“To teach children that animals have certain rights creates in their minds a respect and regard for life.” -Caroline Earle White
Compassion towards all beings ought to be taught at the right age. Every year, the students of Saraswathi Kendra Learning Centre are taken to Blue Cross where they are introduced to the plight of stray animals, farm animals and other injured animals. This time, our students got an opportunity to closely interact with some of these animals. The chief veterinary Doctor, Dr.Siva, took them around the facility and explained why each of the animals were brought to the facility after which the students were given time to interact with and pet healthy kittens and puppies. The students just did not have the heart to come back from the puppy pen!
Before leaving Blue Cross, the students thanked the Doctor and donated a bag of biscuits, old bed sheets and clothes and a bunch of newspapers for the animals in need. On coming back to school, the students were shown a few rescue videos by Blue Cross after which they were made aware of all that we could do to reduce the suffering of these animals. After all, as Gandhi ji rightly said, the greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
