A petition to save the ship of the desert from sinking – September 22, 2015

Kindness Kids is an initiative by the C.P.Ramaswami Aiyar Foundation to teach children about the importance of kindness to animals and the link between their food and the environment. The focus is on alleviating animal suffering, how a vegetarian diet improves one’s health and well-being, and the links between food choices and environmental impact.

It is that time of the year when camels are illegally transported from Rajasthan to different parts of India for the festival of Bakrid. On the 21st of September 2015, the Indian desert camels were declared to be an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).  If this practice continues year after year, the ship of the desert will eventually become extinct. Moreover they go through a lot of stress and strain due to the way they are transported (since they are made to walk for 60 days to reach the destination) and finally they are stabbed, during which they have a slow and painful death.

The students of prep 1, 2 and 3, who are part of the Kindness Kids programme, signed a petition addressed to the Honourable  Justice, Mr. Sanjay Kishan Kaul requesting him to prevent this practice from happening this year as well. We are hoping to save the lives of these endangered species. Let us spread compassion, love and peace. 🙂
